The
Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Nana Oye Lithur has
disclosed government’s intention to increase beneficiaries of the
Livelihood Empowerment against Poverty (LEAP) programme from 90,000 to
150,000.
She said this is to ensure improve governments fight against poverty in the country.

Nana Oye made the disclosure when she presented relief items to some flood victims in the Asokore Mampong municipality in the Ashanti Region.
She said over 8,000 households in the
region were currently benefiting from the programme, adding that
additional households have been identified and will soon be hooked onto
the programme.
The Minister further disclosed that an emergency intervention unit has been set up to offer extensive support for flood related victims.
Meanwhile, confirming this in an interview with Ghanadistricts.com, the Chief Planning Officer for the assembly, Paa Kwesi Simmons said, the items are second batch of relief items presented to flood victims in the area.

It would be recalled that President John Dramani Mahama last week presented similar items, worth millions of cedis to some of the affected victims.
He expressed gratitude to the Ministry for the support and called for more of such support for the victims in the area.
Items presented, according to him include bags of rice, cooking oil, mattresses among others.
